Central Texas, c. 1985
Pa & a six foot-something rattlesnake on the ranch they were care-taking on when I was born. It’s important to note that this snake was shot in the yard around the house, and only because there was a very pregnant woman in the vicinity. The ranch was teeming with rattlers, water moccasins, and scorpions; what little girls are sometimes made of.
It is also important that I note that Pa shot the snake square in the head, but because of the way it was coiled, it blew through it’s length, too. He saved the skin regardless.
